How to Deal with a Narcissist

Not all Immature people are Narcissists, but all narcissists are Immature. Many of them can be found in high positions. They run countries and corporations.

Apart from the high-level leaders, narcissists present themselves as bullies or victims (often interchangeably). You find them in homes and in workplaces.

In America, it is estimated that 5 % of the population has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. But narcissism exists on a spectrum. It takes much to get a clinical diagnosis.

Even those who may not be qualified for a diagnosis can be high on narcissism. And cause much damage and suffering.

But what can you do?

In another article, I gave you some links to
videos by Dr Les Carter.

He explained to us what narcissism looks like.

Today I will introduce you to Dr Ramani Durvasula.

And have a closer look at how to deal with narcissists.

She is an expert on narcissism, a professor of Psychology and she has written several books on narcissism.

Gaslighting

The term “gaslighting” occurs in the videos below. What is “gaslighting”

It is when someone criticises everything about you. What you say, how you behave, what you believe in. Instead, they want to imprint their views into your mind. Telling you what a bad person you are and how “everyone” dislikes you. All to take control over you. That is a narcissist’s goal.

10 Ways to Become Resistant to Narcissists

“Charisma is like heavy perfume that someone wears when they don’t take a shower.“

“One of the ultimate narcissist repellents is to have meaning and purpose in your life. Give yourself time and space to figure out what that is.”

Is Your Boss Narcissistic?

“You cannot do a thing unless you have documentation.”

“The enablers (or flying monkeys) rally around the narcissist begging for the scraps, with a cult-like admiration for the narcissistic leader.”

“Start getting comfortable with the less popular path”

as Dr Ramani points out.

Being Mature is not always an easy path. But, it is worthwhile.

Toxic people, like narcissists, weaken you. They make you less able to be a healthy adult who adds value to the world – and value to yourself.

If you say no to toxic people, you may end up being alone from time to time. But you have something much more important. You have dignity. You are at peace with yourself.
